Tuntematon tie on minulle Pennywise-yhtyeen “The Unknown Road”. Kuulin sen ensimmäisen kerran ollessani 15-vuotias. Se on voimabiisini ja se on inspiroinut minua suuresti. Satoja, varmaan tuhansia sivuja on tullut luettua tentteihin kuunnellen tätä. Usein öisin.
Pennywise’n viesti on rohkaista ihmisiä löytämään rohkeus seurata omaa polkuaan. CD:n kannessa oli osa Robert Frostin runoa “The Road Not Taken”. Luulin pitkään että ne käsittelivät samaa asiaa, mutta mielestäni Pennywise meni metsään.
Runossa on mies seisomassa risteyksessä. Hän yrittää päättää kumpaan suuntaan pitäisi mennä. Molemmat tiet olivat käytännössä samanlaisia ja hän vain miettii. Käytännön tulkintani runon viestistä on että sinun ei pitäisi vatuloida ja ylianalysoida. Ei ole väliä kumpaan suuntaan päädyt kunhan teet päätöksen. Luot kuitenkin tarinasi merkitykset ja tulkinnat vasta jälkikäteen.
Ja nyt vuosia myöhemmin Voin todella arvostaa molempien tulkintoja omilla tavoillaan.

“The Unknown Road” for me is Pennywise’s album “The Unknown Road.” I heard it for the first time when I was 15 years old. It’s my power anthem and it has inspired me greatly. Hundreds, probably thousands of pages have been read for exams while listening to this. Often at night.
Pennywise’s message is to encourage people to find the courage to follow their own path. On the CD cover was a part of Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken.” For a long time I thought they were dealing with the same thing, but in my opinion Pennywise missed the point.
In the poem, there is a man standing at a crossroads. He’s trying to decide which direction to go. Both paths were essentially the same and he’s just thinking. My practical interpretation of the poem’s message is that you shouldn’t waver and overanalyze. It doesn’t matter which direction you end up taking as long as you make a decision. You create the meanings and interpretations of your story only in hindsight.
And now, years later, I can truly appreciate both interpretations in their own way.

Otherwise great mix of energy – Pennywise (symbol of childhood terror) and Robert Frost (symbol of poetry and hope).
