Jouluhiiri, meidän joka jouluinen ystävämme
Perheemme jouluihin kuuluu öinen vierailija, joka on vieraillut meillä jo monta vuotta, Jouluhiiri. Se tulee joka vuosi ensimmäistä kertaa, marraskuun viimeisenä yönä ennen joulukuun ensimmäistä. Sen viimeinen vierailu on aina aivan ennen jouluaattoa. Se on aina tuonut meille ensimmäisenä lahjana jonkin jouluaiheisen kirjan, jota luemme iltasatuna perheen kanssa. Seuraavina päivinä lahjat pienenevät. Mutta joka yö jouluhiiri tuo jotain mukavaa, kuten rusinoita tai tarroja. Lahjoissa voi myös olla vähän karkkiakin.
Lapset ovat hyvin tarkkoja: he huolehtivat siitä, että aina ennen nukkumaanmenoa jätämme sille jotain syötävää. Yleensä leivänmuruja ja silloin tällöin annamme sille myös juustoa. Ja nyt kun lapset ovat oppineet käyttämään internettiä, he kuulevat jouluhiiren tarinasta myös verkossa.
Me emme ole oikeastaan nähneet jouluhiirtä, koska se on niin nopea. Mutta päätin, että se ehdottomasti ansaitsee oman veistoksensa. Tältä se voisi näyttää.

Christmas Mouse, our friendly Christmas visitor.
Our family’s Christmas includes a nightly visitor who has been visiting us for many years, the Christmas Mouse. It comes for the first time each year on the last night of November before the first of December. Its last visit is always just before Christmas Eve. It has always brought us a Christmas-themed book as the first gift, which we read as a bedtime story with the family. On the following days the gifts get smaller. But every night the Christmas Mouse brings something nice, like raisins or stickers. The gifts may also include a little candy.
The children are very careful: they make sure that we always leave it something to eat before going to bed. Usually bread crumbs and from time to time we also give it some cheese. And now that the children have learned to use the internet, they might hear about the Christmas Mouse story online as well.
We haven’t actually seen the Christmas Mouse, because it’s so fast. But I decided that it absolutely deserves its own sculpture. This is what it might look like.
